Common questions

What if my equipment gets damaged?
You can require a refundable security deposit on every booking — the amount is yours to set. Renters provide their contact details and agree to your terms before they can book. For high-value equipment, we recommend a deposit and a clear condition checklist at pickup and return.
Do I need special insurance?
Equipment owners maintain their own insurance. If you hire out regularly, it's worth checking with your insurer that hire use is covered under your policy — some policies require a note for commercial hire. Heron Hire is a platform that facilitates the booking; it does not replace your own insurance arrangements.
What equipment can I list?
Any machinery or equipment you own and are legally entitled to hire out. Excavators, skid steers, mowers, chippers, trailers, compactors, tillers, aerators, pressure washers, generators — if it can be hired, it can be listed. Equipment must be in safe, working condition with any required certifications current.
How and when do I get paid?
Payouts are processed via Stripe Connect directly to your nominated bank account. Payment is released after the booking is marked complete. Standard bank transfer times apply — typically 1–2 business days.
Can I control when my equipment is available?
Absolutely. You manage availability through your dashboard. Block out any dates — scheduled maintenance, personal use, whatever you need. Renters can only request dates you've left open. You also approve every booking before it's confirmed.
Can I offer delivery?
Yes — you can set a flat delivery fee on your listing. Renters can choose pickup or delivery at booking. Delivery fee goes directly to you and is not subject to platform commission.
