How much does it cost to hire an excavator in Australia?
Excavator hire rates vary significantly by machine size. Mini excavators (1–3 tonne) typically range from $250–$450 per day through traditional hire companies. On Heron Hire, owner-set rates are often more competitive because there's no hire yard overhead. Rates depend on size, location, and availability.
What's the difference between Heron Hire and a traditional hire company?
Traditional hire companies carry fixed overheads — hire yards, fleet maintenance, insurance, and staff — and those costs flow through to the rate you pay. Heron Hire is peer-to-peer: equipment owners list machines they already own, set their own rates, and earn from idle assets. The result is typically better rates for hirers and real income for owners, with secure payments and verified accounts on both sides.
Can I hire a trailer on Heron Hire?
Yes. Trailers are one of the most common listings on the platform — box trailers, car carriers, tipper trailers, and enclosed trailers. Search by trailer type and suburb to find one near you when we launch.
Is Heron Hire available across all of Australia?
Heron Hire is designed for Australia-wide use. The platform works in any suburb or region — listings are location-based so renters find gear near them. Supply grows as more owners list in each area. Register your interest and you'll be notified when equipment becomes available in your region.
How does payment work for equipment owners?
Renters pay through the platform before the hire begins. Heron Hire holds the payment and releases it to your nominated bank account after the booking is completed. You never have to chase payment or handle cash. Heron Hire also absorbs card processing fees — they're not deducted from your payout.
What equipment can be listed on Heron Hire?
Any machinery or equipment you legally own and can hire out in safe working condition. Common listings include excavators, skid steers, ride-on mowers, wood chippers, trailers, compactors, tillers, aerators, pressure washers, generators, and landscaping attachments. If it can be hired, it can be listed.
